              About Serenity House Hospice
Who We Are?
  • Serenity House Hospice is committed to supporting, educating and empowering individuals and their families who are living with a progressive life-threatening illness. With our dedicated staff, volunteers and community partners we provide compassionate care to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those whom we are privileged to serve.
What Brought Us Here?
  • The idea for Serenity was developed by a group of friends who saw first hand the need for quality hospice palliative care in Elgin County. These friends felt compelled to do something about this great need. They set out on a mission of information gathering and growing their dream.
  • They went to visit other hospice organizations finding out how they grew their hospices and what they would need to do to have a hospice in Elgin County.
  • The friends sought out others in the community who were as passionate about the cause as they were and formed a Board of Directors for Serenity House Hospice.
  • We received incorporation status on November 29, 2002 and operate under Charitable Registration Number 86460 3352 RR0001.
  • Since our inception, Serenity House Hospice has been committed to building support and awareness in order to engage our community with our organization.
  • In the fall of 2003, Serenity House Hospice undertook a Needs and Feasibility Study in Elgin County to find out about what the residents of the county felt about hospice palliative care. A third party through the Statistics Laboratory at the University of Western Ontario did the study.
  • They found out that out of citizens of Elgin surveyed, 91% agreed that hospice services would be effective in meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of a patient. Also, 93% agreed that a hospice should be integrated to complement and support existing services (hospital palliative unit). Along with much more information that supported the need for hospice palliative care in Elgin.
  • In 2006 we opened our resource centers doors and have been offering programs, support and information since.
  • We are a proud Elgin-St. Thomas United Way member agency and delighted to be a grant recipient from The Ontario Trillium Foundation.
